Our story
Our founder Samantha has always been passionate about protecting the rights of organisations and the individual fairly and lawfully. Yorkshire born and bred, she began her career in the civil service. Fast forward 15 years, and Samantha was an Information Governance Manager at the Food Standards Agency. She launched Dunwell Data Protection in 2015 to offer her down-to-earth approach to the business and charity sectors.

“As a teenager I loved legal dramas like LA Law. Working in records management in Yorkshire may not have involved Californian sunshine. But I did become an expert in data information rights laws, Freedom of Information requests, information governance, data sharing and data breaches. Soon I was the agency’s ‘go-to’ person on personal data use. Even our in-house lawyers would point colleagues my way.
With the increase in digital technology and new laws, more and more businesses were asking us for advice. When a major processing plant was unsure if it could install biometric hand readers, I had a lightbulb moment. If they were struggling to find the answers, how many others were?
